Musical Meditation - Day of Peace
20 years ago this Saturday, the United States was brought to it's knees by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. This heinous act caused the deaths of 2,977 innocent people and the injuries of over 25,000. Many people turned to the church for comfort as the nation healed from this attack.
I was attending my kindergarten orientation at Memorial Elementary School the morning of September 11th. I rode the bus with my mother, toured the building and met my teacher. I will never forget the announcement made by then principal, Dr. Bob Tremblay... something along the lines of "Please ensure all TV's are turned off in all classrooms. Teachers, please check your emails for more information". Little did I know at the time that the first plane had just hit the World Trade Center. My mother then had to explain to five year old me that evening what had happened... of course in a way to not frighten a young child. All I can remember thinking is "why do those people not like us?".
This hymn, "Day of Peace", composed by Janet Sullivan Whitaker, leads us to imagine a day where peace prevails on earth, and where no one needs to worry about war or conflict any longer. "For this, let us all work and pray".
Calling All Singers!
The Festival Choir is returning for the first time since Christmas 2019! We will be re-debuting on the Feast of Christ the King (November 21st). If you are interested in singing (no professional experience needed... just a desire to sing praise to God!), please email
, or speak to Jonathan after Mass!
Mass Setting Change! Mass of the Resurrection
, we will transition back to the Mass of the Resurrection for our Eucharistic Acclamations. This can be found in the Breaking Bread Missal beginning at #863.
The Gloria will be new to us, as we did not sing that during the pandemic. Below is an audio recording, as well as the music. I hope this provides an opportunity for you to learn this before next weekend!
